Origin: High mountain tea gardens at 800–1200m altitude on Mount Emei, Sichuan, China.
Appearance: Flat, smooth, and elegant, pointed at both ends like bamboo leaves; tender green with a glossy luster, subtly covered with silvery down.
Aroma & Taste: Rich and lingering chestnut-like aroma; the second infusion reveals an orchid note, while the cooled cup leaves a honey-like sweetness (“three-stage fragrance”). The liquor is a clear, bright pale green. The taste is fresh, mellow, and sweet — a slight initial astringency dissipates quickly, giving way to a pleasant, lasting sweetness.
Cultural note: In 1964, Marshal Chen Yi tasted this tea at Wannian Temple on Mount Emei, and noting its resemblance to bamboo leaves, named it “Zhu Ye Qing” (Bamboo Leaf Green). Rooted in the tradition of Tang Dynasty Buddhist monks who used tea to aid meditation, Zhu Ye Qing has become a leading premium green tea brand and has been presented as a state gift on multiple occasions.
Brewing suggestions: 80°C water, glass cup or porcelain gaiwan. Use 4g tea per 200ml water. No rinse. Use medium or top infusion method. Can be infused 2–3 times.
