Origin: Huangshan Maofeng: Yellow Mountain scenic area, Anhui Province, China, at elevations above 700m. Also produced in Yunnan and Sichuan provinces.
Type: Green Tea (baked green tea)
Appearance: Tightly twisted, slightly curled leaves resembling sparrow tongues. Tender green color covered with fine white down.
Aroma & Taste: Elegant, delicate orchid-like fragrance. Clear, pale yellow-green liquor. The taste is mellow, sweet, and clean with minimal astringency and a long-lasting, sweet aftertaste. Floral notes interwoven with fresh, crisp flavors.
Cultural Significance: Maofeng is a premium style of baked green tea. Huangshan Maofeng was first produced during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty (circa 1875) by the Xie Yu Da Tea House. It was named for its appearance — "white down covering the body with tips like mountain peaks" — and is considered one of China's Ten Famous Teas.
Brewing Suggestions: 80-85°C water, glass cup or porcelain gaiwan. Use 4g tea per 200ml water. Steep for 2–3 minutes. Can be infused 2–3 times.
